PIANO LESSONS
Lessons are held weekly and run concurrently across the normal schools' academic year. They comprise the following elements:
Repertoire
pupils tend to have a pretty good idea of the type of music that appeals and there's no better place to begin one's journey. We will explore all sorts, from nursery rhymes to the music of the Great Masters and beyond. Classical, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary and Pop styles are typical.
Technique
Playing in a coordinated way is essential to longevity. Through the application of the fundamentals found in 5 carefully devised exercises, you will be soon be on their way to finding your creativity while staying healthy. From sitting correctly at the keyboard to effectively putting the key down, together we will fashion a technique that works for you.
Theory
The rudiments and theory of music are incorporated into practical lessons. Proficiency is externally assessed through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Ensemble (Making music with others)
The process of making music is immensely satisfying, especially when the experience is a shared one. Pupils are encouraged to work together in piano ensembles, playing for singers and accompanying other instrumentalists in chamber or orchestral settings. Playing for dance classes and choirs are also encouraged.
Musicianship Skills
This takes the form of rhythm labs, improvisation, sight reading, aural-awareness exercises.
Performance
We are committed to giving two concert performances per year. Pupils are encouraged to play as many pieces as they wish in contrasting styles, including own compositions. Previous concert themes include Disney, Christmas & Television & Film. There are also performance opportunities through school music clubs and local music festivals.
